LEAN-TO Consulting, LLC | Owner, Principal

About Me

After working for more than 25 years in the Oil & Gas sector, I decided to start my own company, Lean-to consulting, LLC, in the fall of 2014. My objective, to provide value and expertise across industry versus within one organization, leveraging that quarter century of experience.

Throughout my career I have had the opportunity to work for fully integrated operating companies, engineering firms and pipeline operating companies with unique design and operational challenges in Alaska and US Gulf Coast. I have been able to build and apply expertise in pipeline and pipeline facility operations, including petroleum measurement. In addition, I have had the unique challenge of successfully managing projects with a total installed cost in excess of a billion dollars. However, likely my greatest contributions to the companies I worked for was as an internal consultant, leveraging my skills in facilitation, process improvement, management of change and overall operational excellence.

As a consultant I can provide any of the following services:

Construction Management (CM): Overall planning, coordination and control of a project to build / implement the design. Including but not limited to working with project planners, schedulers and cost tacking professionals, communication with Project Manager, overall direction of general contractor, establishing and enforcing safety culture on the job site, ensuring documentation and drawings are complete and reporting requirements.

Due Diligence Assessment (Business Development Support): Evaluation of assets for the appraisal of asset liabilities and potential commercial value based on the client needs. Review of documentation and material facts regarding the asset, culminating in a report and any recommendations appropriate.

Measurement Assessment: Understanding the operating context and accuracy requirements for the metering and measurement equipment. Providing an assessment of all equipment in scope, providing findings and recommendations though an agreed upon report format. Assessment will be done through agreed upon approaches including but not limited to site visits, interviews, review of standards, review of practices, review of procedures, and comparison to API and other industry standards.

Meeting Facilitation: Providing third party meeting facilitation only and not additional consulting services. Meeting facilitation could include: Process Mapping, Project Review Meetings, Project Scoping Meetings, etc.

Operational Excellence: Understanding the vision of the management and executive team towards achieving operational excellence, including the driving factors. Providing expertise to guide and assist in the development of the OpEx Strategy, OpEx Plan, OpEx engaging communication with employees, OpEx Map, system and program assessments, setting priorities, and schedule development. As desired or required detailed assessments of the culture readiness and as applicable alignment with industry practice and regulatory bodies such as API Recommended Practice and PHSMA expectations.

Operations Subject Matter Expert (SME): Providing petroleum knowledge and experience in the form of guidance or coaching to help the client achieve desired goals. This SME work often dove-tales with improved procedures and processes.

Process Improvements:
Facilitation of working sessions or Kaizen Lean events for targeted process or procedure. Work includes planning and scoping sessions, session reporting in a format agreed to during planning and any required follow-up or periodic review of progress.

Project Management (PM): Overall planning, coordination and control of a project through all five phases as defined by PMI; Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Control and Closing. Where these phases include the conceptual design / initial assessment of alternatives, detailed design work, design reviews, constructability reviews, hazard reviews, implementing the build and all documentation for close-out. Including but not limited to working with project planners, schedulers and cost tacking professionals, communication with Management Team, communication and overall direction of Engineering, technical staff, and Construction team, establishing and enforcing safety culture on the job site, ensuring documentation and drawings are complete and reporting requirements. (Project Management – Lite fees to apply where work contains some but not all components of traditional project management scope and responsibilities.

Safety Assessment: Understanding the corporate safety culture and vision. Providing an assessment of all components in scope, providing findings and recommendations though an agreed upon report format.
