DESCRIPTION:

This person will be the "face" of vocation ministry for the Congregation of St. Joseph. They will invite and create relationships to connect young adults with CSJ Mission/Charism, which may lead to vowed membership for some, or associate membership for others. Working closely, as a team, with the Associate Director and New Member Director they will foster a culture of hospitality and invitation within the congregation; and create and connect with national and local opportunities for sisters and associates to engage with younger people to learn about contemporary religious life and the congregation.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work collaboratively with Communications team to develop and implement communications strategies to raise our media profile with young people through various social media, print and electronic ads, articles, blogs, and videos.
  • Maintain contact/communication with women interested in learning more about the Congregation of St. Joseph.
  • Engage young adults in the vision of our charism and mission.
  • Discern with interested women in ways which allow them to assess their sense of call, attraction to the Congregation, and desire to deepen their connection with us.
  • Encourage and invite Congregation participation in vocation ministry; establish a network of relationships throughout our geographic areas among sisters, associates and women seeking relationship with us.
  • Connect interested women to the Associate formation process in their geographic area, when appropriate.
  • Connect women interested in exploring vowed life to a local contact (and community when possible); work collaboratively with these contacts to assist them in ways they can effectively accompany seekers.
  • Explore local places across our geography where we might establish a presence with young adults and develop a plan to do this.
  • Establish and work with a Vocation Ministry Advisory group to plan, implement and evaluate vocation promotion programs throughout our geography. 
  • Partner with Congregational initiatives and activities to involve and connect young adults: e.g. Peace & Justice team; CSJ as Movement/Community Builders for Peace; service days, etc.

 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Familiarity with contemporary religious life in general, and with the CSJ mission, charism, and the Congregation of St. Joseph.
  • Ability to create and work effectively as part of a team; possess good interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Participate in: annual NRVC and CSSJ Federation, regional and local vocation organizations; ongoing professional development through conferences, classes, workshops, reading, seminars; and other young adult conferences as appropriate.
  • Familiar with and able to engage in discernment with interested women.
  • Ability to manage an office, create annual budget and oversee financial accounts, work in a team relationship.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Experience and facility with electronic and social media such as blogs, Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BA required, MA preferred  with course work/experience in: Spirituality, Theology, Adult Development, Psychology and other related areas.
  • Be in spiritual direction.
  • Have or be willing to obtain certificate in spiritual director preferred.
  • Personal self-awareness and commitment to personal faith and spiritual growth.
  • Familiarity with healthy adult faith development .
  • Experience working with young adults and/or an understanding of what’s going on in the ‘world’ of young adults.

 

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Engage in normal office activity, including lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be willing to work out of one of the Congregational Centers (to be negotiated).
  • Must be willing/able to travel throughout the congregation, driving when possible.
  • Spend significant time at all Congregation Centers
