About Our Job

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Airport Infrastructure Management, the Senior Director of Maintenance leads the operations and functions of the division. This is a tactical position that runs the day-to-day operations of the division and is responsible for the oversight of the following sections: Field Maintenance, Fleet Maintenance, Facility Maintenance, and Technical Maintenance. This position will develop objectives while implementing strategies and managing plans, programs, and projects.

  • Coaches, mentors, and challenges staff.
  • Champions continuous improvement, including devising new strategies and new opportunities.
  • Sets performance standards for the division and ensures operations achieve or exceed performance metrics.
  • Drives staff development initiatives to instill shared values and enhance core competencies across functions, operations and the organization; initiates and implements programs to develop, build upon and encourage performance strengths of subordinate managers, supervisors and staff.
  • Resolves operational and management issues, makes decisions that include multiple perspectives and solves underlying problems. Contributes to the development and implementation of section work plans based on the annual and strategic plans.
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry trends, opportunities, and challenges. Assists with the establishment of the Airport Infrastructure Management (AIM) division's operational framework and adopts policies and procedures.
  • Manages all aspects of corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance pertaining to airside and landside, and facility maintenance activities; develops and establishes standards, procedures, systems, and guidelines for four sections which include: Field, Fleet, Facilities, and Technical Maintenance.
  • Develops, manages and recommends an annual operating budget by reviewing past expenditures, analysis and projects future needs; tracks expenditures to ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines, goals and objectives; and assists with DEN's capital planning.
  • Collaborates and interacts with managers and executives, and others internal or external to the City and County to secure funds and resources for the division; participates in and conducts budget and fiscal policy-setting discussions for the division.
  • Plans aviation maintenance goals and activities through research, evaluation, review, and assessment of future needs; makes recommendations and implements necessary improvements and modifications to ensure safe, attractive and well maintained facilities and grounds.
  • Directs and manages all snow removal activities and functions.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • 5+ years management experience leading teams of more than 300 employees
  • Knowledge of multi-function snow removal equipment
  • 3 years of experience using Maximo or a similar enterprise asset management database
  • Knowledge and experience with process improvement, business intelligence or building business cases based on detailed data analysis
  • Knowledge and experience with a CDL driving program

  • Baccalaureate degree in Engineering, Aviation Management, Business Management or related field.
  • Five years of management level work experience which must have included managing airport maintenance in a medium or large hub civilian airport, a military facility or a large multifunctional maintenance operation. One year of management experience must include budget and fiscal oversight responsibility, evaluation of business processes, and policy and decision making experience with planning and organizing multiple maintenance programs, projects ,operations or functions.
Education/Experience Equivalency: Two years of the appropriate type and level of experience will serve as an equivalency to one year of education. In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, eight years of relevant experience can be substituted. A Master's Degree may be substitutes for one year of experience.

About Everything Else

Classification Title: The working title for this position is Senior Director of Maintenance but the official job classification title is Senior Director of Airport Infrastructure Management.
Hiring Range: For candidates that meet our ideal qualifications we typically will offer between the minimum and the middle of the range.
Assessments/Testing: This position does not require testing.

Extended Work Hours / Snow Duties / Emergency Incidents: Mandatory extended/additional hours can be required, as DEN is a 24/7/365 operation, includes nights, weekends and holidays. Additionally, this position is required to work mandatory snow duties which vary and also include nights, weekends and holidays.
