POSITION OVERVIEW:

The world is moving from traditional transportation solutions into the realm of mobility management, where disruptive strategies and emerging technologies are forcing a rethink of how people, goods, and services will interact within the urban environment.  Parsons is leading the industry in implementing the physical and digital infrastructure necessary for cities to thrive in this new world, providing secure, multimodal, technology-enabled solutions that integrate seamlessly with existing urban operations and emerging Smart City programs.  Our Systems Division is looking for an agile, multi-talented individual to help us shape this new world, providing our team and our clients with a roadmap for how existing transportation systems, operations, and facilities can be adapted to anticipate and capitalize on emerging technologies including Mobility on Demand, autonomous vehicles, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence.  You would be coming in at the front end of our transformation, and will play a critical role in shaping how our company and our industry define the delivery and execution of mobility management and Smart City strategies.

 

The successful candidate will work across our Infrastructure business lines to build and convey compelling value propositions to both new and existing clients.   As a member of the leadership team, the Director, Strategic Development will work with the Vice President of Innovation and Product Development Lead to define emerging opportunities, understand how those may be captured using our existing capabilities, and define the sales, product, and service strategy necessary to maximize our revenues through new and existing sales channels.  The Systems Division brings together engineers, software developers, and subject matter experts from road, rail, aviation, and industrial markets, giving us the full depth and breadth of expertise necessary to execute this vision.

 

This Director will work across Infrastructure divisions, with access to the subject matter expert(s) necessary to develop optimal solutions for new and existing clients. Working with the Strategic Transformation Lead, he or she will develop and implement strategies for the Infrastructure Business Unit and Systems Division in the following areas:

 
  • Smart Cities Technology

  • Mobility Management

  • Intelligent Transportation Systems

  • Advanced Vehicle Technology

  • Advanced Train Control Systems

  • Advanced Aviation Systems

  • Advanced Communication Systems

  • Fare Collection Technology

  • Critical Infrastructure Protection Systems

  • Systems Integration

  • Software and Hardware Solutions

The Director, Strategic Development will understand the business models that govern of our industry and be able to articulate how emerging technologies and external influences can support, disrupt, and/or transform the value propositions of our company and our clients.  May travel extensively to cultivate strategic partnerships and support execution of strategic initiatives.  Typical responsibilities include developing business cases for entering new and emerging markets, as well as identifying strategic customers, revenue streams, and sales channels necessary to support these business cases.  The successful candidate can be based anywhere in the US close to a major airport

 
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • 4-year degree in Engineering, Transportation Planning, or Business (or equivalent) and least 10 years of diversified experience is required.

  • Ability to translate complex concepts across multiple technical and non-technical audiences critical. 

  • Ability to develop sketch level estimates of market size, revenue potential highly desirable

  • Understanding of, and prior experience in transportation system or product development is an advantage

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
 

Prior experience in transportation system or product development is an advantage.  Experience with tech-facing transportation solutions (ridesharing, autonomous vehicles, data analytics, consumer apps) a plus.


SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
:

The incumbent must possess strong written and oral communication skills, including excellent presentation skills.  In addition, an exceptional ability to represent the Company favorably, to develop new partnerships, and to negotiate with key members of other firms, is also required.  Ability to communicate at an executive level, influence and persuade to achieve desired outcomes and entrepreneurial, sales focused, results oriented leader.  Deep understanding of transportation systems industry.
