Responsibilities
The per diem Staff Chaplain is a full member of the health care team, sharing in the healing mission of St. Joseph's Medical Center Spiritual Services department. The incumbent assesses the spiritual needs, provides counsel, educates and ministers to patients, their families, physicians, co-workers and members of the community, as required. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of the Organization. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values.

Qualifications
Minimum:
  • Experience, preferably in a hospital setting, working as part of a team.
  • Experience in the spiritual care of psychiatric and AODA patients, conducting spiritual groups and providing spiritual support to individual patients of all faiths
  • A Master's degree in Divinity, Theology, or Pastoral Studies with at least four (4) units of clinical pastoral education (or its equivalent).
  • Certification by NACC or APC or certification eligible within 18 months.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of spiritual care practices as well as general office practices, including records management.
  • Familiarity with current medical ethical issues and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Facilities.
  • Basic understanding of all denominations, faiths and sensitivity to diverse cultures required

Preferred:
  • Ability to speak Spanish or Southeast Asian language helpful.
