We are hiring an entrepreneurial minded leader to manage operations and events while building campus partnerships for a $2.6 million catering department as part of a $25 million KU Dining Services enterprise. Exemplary leadership and organizational skills are a necessity for success in a fast paced events environment.



Performs management and organizational duties for a $2.6 million catering operation for KU Dining Services, with added responsibility for the Alcoholic Beverage Services. Schedules 60+ employees for all catering events while overseeing setup and service. Monitors food quality and quantity standards through HAACP program while continuously improving food presentation. Promotes food and service on behalf of catering by building positive relationships with campus partners while modeling exceptional customer service. Has full responsibility for all aspects of alcohol service: cash controls, establishing recipes and procedures, ordering, storage, and alcohol security. Ensures Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) are within established parameters and all employees are trained per regulatory guidelines. Utilizes technology to provide efficient processes to employee and customers.



  1. Oversee events in a full-service catering operation by leading setup, service and staff, keeping appropriate food and labor cost. Model and expect premier customer service.

  2. Ensure proper HACCP procedures are being followed during food preparation, transportation and service. Responsibilities range from receiving, serving, and cleaning up food service and preparation areas.

  3. Manages all parts of the beverage business. Orders, stores, and distributes alcoholic beverages based on projected consumption. At end of event, completes an inventory usage/ revenue reconciliation record and stores unused liquor in a secure location. Maintains liquor room in an orderly manner with correct rotation procedures.

  4. Lead a 60+ team of full-time, part-time and student workers. Responsible for departmental training and scheduling for part-time employees. Manages payroll to stay in budget and report accurately.

  5. Effectively use software programs to schedule and update events, work with accounting processes and schedule employees.

  6. Ensures that all employees serving alcoholic beverages are TIPS certified. Trains bartenders using established recipes and procedures.


  1. Knowledge of materials and methods used in preparation, holding, and serving of food and the use and care of appropriate utensils and equipment.

  2. Knowledge of health, sanitary, and safety standards and practices applied to food service.

  3. Ability to communicate and portray a friendly disposition and dedication to serve the general public

  4. Ability to perform average physical requirements of food service work to include stooping, bending, extensive walking and lifting up to 50 pounds.


  1. Over 21 years of age and two years’ experience as either a bartender or supervisor of bartenders in a full service retail establishment that serves alcoholic beverages as described in Kansas ABC regulations

  2. Three years demonstrated supervisory experience in full service restaurants, hotel food/banquet service or event management

  3. Familiar with Kansas Alcoholic Beverage Control laws and regulations

  4. Experience with the use of inventory/revenue reconciliation sheets to hold employees accountable for accurate transactions.

  5. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Suite software.

  6. Proficiency in schedule writing for a complex department with numerous events occurring simultaneously.

  7. Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Hospitality or equivalent years of experience
