Are you an experienced customer-service oriented plumber who enjoys variety? Difficult situations will arise in this position, so we need someone who can handle them in a timely and efficient manner.

The City and County of Denver, Department of General Services (GS) is seeking a Skilled Plumber to join our team to perform full performance level work in the daily operation, maintenance, preventative maintenance and repair for facilities, including utilizing an automated work order system to track time, material and labor for all work orders and p/m's.

This position will also assist in other trades areas including electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems including air handling units, domestic cooling and hot water systems, heating and chill water systems, sump and sewage systems, diesel generators, and fire protection pump and detection systems.

Some of the day to day duties:
  • Responsible for the daily operation of, and periodic preventative maintenance on, facilities' plumbing systems, to include backflow certifications and repairs.
  • Inspects buildings, grounds and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning systems and conditions.
  • Assists with installation and modification of building equipment systems.
    Oversees or performs repair, testing and troubleshooting of building equipment systems.
  • Evaluates and recommends equipment and service upgrades.
  • Performs licensed skilled trade work in Plumbing and assist in such areas as Electrical, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and other trades related areas that require a journeymen's level license.
  • Assists in coordinating maintenance efforts with outside contractors and technicians for contracted work.
  • Assist in other trades areas including electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems including air handling units, domestic cooling and hot water systems, heating and chill water systems, sump and sewage systems, diesel generators, and fire protection pump and detection systems.
  • Orders parts and supplies, as required, and maintains stock and inventory control.
  • Provides input to supervisors and managers responsible for planning and controlling annual budgets.
  • Prioritizes service calls and follow-ups upon completion.
  • Responsive to tenant complaints for safety, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and environmental issues through both personal contact and work order systems.
  • Prepares and maintains maintenance work order logs and records.
  • Familiar with, and conforms to, all written operating procedures associated with the facility.
  • Snow removal duties as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Please Note: After probation, this position is eligible to participate in our 9/80 flex schedule plan, leading to having every other Monday or Friday off to enhance an employee's work/life balance.

About You

Our ideal candidate:

  • Licensed Journeyman Plumber with experience in the maintenance and repair of all types of plumbing systems
  • Ability to certify and repair all types of backflow devices and track them using automated work order systems
  • Experience in working from blueprints
  • Basic Computer Skills

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Three years' experience as a professional plumber, building operations, including engineering, equipment and systems maintenance using Building Automation Systems (BAS).
Licensure and/or Certification:
  • Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of application.
  • Possession by the end of the probationary period of either a valid journey certificate of qualification as required in trades specialty issued by the City and County of Denver or a valid journey license issued by the State of Colorado.
  • Possession of Back-flow Certification by the end of the probationary period.

Classification Title: The official job classification title is Building Engineer.

Assessments/Testing: This position does not require an assessment.
