Vertex Pharmaceuticals is looking to hire an Associate Director to join the Commercial Training & Development (CT&D) team. The Associate Director CT&D will partner with the Director of Commercial Training & Development to enhance the skill and knowledge competencies of the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) customer-facing teams. This individual will be primarily responsible for developing, and executing a training strategy for the Field Sales team and Vertex Guidance and Patient Support team (GPS), while supporting other Field Training and Development initiatives as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and manage a comprehensive learning-strategy that supports CF customer-facing teams and organizational goals
  • Conduct performance analyses to accurately diagnose and identify the skill/knowledge gaps required to support workplace competencies
  • Conduct training needs assessments and design continuous learning initiatives consistent with findings and needs of the CF customer facing teams
  • Lead and facilitate the Initial Training Class (ITC) for Field Sales and/or GPS teams along with other training classes as needed
  • Develop project plans and curriculum designed to meet the specific needs of customer facing teams
  • Employ sound adult learning principles and blended content design in the development and implementation of training
  • Effectively manage multiple vendors for content design and development when required
  • Effectively manage a training budget on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Marketing, GPS, and Sales to plan, design and deliver all customer facing related training
  • This role will require the coordination of designated Field Sales and GPS training related materials for the Vertex Annual Kick Off (VAKO) meeting, subsequent POA planning meetings, and product launch activities and meetings.
  • The role will require the individual to manage the processes associated with the Communications Review Committee (CRC), procurement and strategic sourcing, vendor management activities, budget management, and Commercial Training & Development leadership.
  • The individual selected for this position will be required to conduct small and large group presentations and training events.
  • Travel requirement for this role includes potential travel in the US and Canada and may be up to 15%-20%.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Under graduate degree required
  • Minimum 5 years pharmaceutical / biotech experience required.
  • Solid project management and interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Experience with creation of training content and facilitating training workshops to small and large groups
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects that require collaboration across functional areas.
  • Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations etc)
  • Skillful team player able to develop rapport and credibility with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to work and coordinate cross-nationally.
  • Ability to work in headquarters full-time
  • Experience with and ability to use Microsoft Office and associated tools (WORD, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally if needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • Pharmaceutical Sales / Sales Management Training experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical marketing or corporate training preferred.
  • Advanced science and disease training experience preferred.
