Berklee College of Music is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Chair of the Electronic Production and Design Department.  As one of the leading music technology programs in the world, Electronic Production and Design offers a curriculum that’s grounded in electronic music production, sound design, and programming. We offer an undergraduate major as well as a Sound Design for Video Games minor, an Electronic Performance minor and an Electronic Digital Instrument Principal. Our curriculum is based on the innovative use of technology, informed by practical applications of research in the field that prepares students for a broad range of careers.
 
The Electronic Production and Design Department includes 17 faculty members providing classroom instruction and directed study to all majors. The department manages the college core technology class that is taken by all Berklee students as well as other technology courses available to all.
 
The Assistant Chair will serve as an academic and administrative leader of the Department—working under the direction and supervision of the Chair. This is a 12-month administrative position with a renewable contract. The ideal candidate will be a strong musician who uses technology in their music making, with a master’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Represent the Electronic Production and Design Department as an administrative leader on- and off-campus
• Advance the student experience and the work of the Department, Division, and College
• Advising students in the Electronic Production and Design Major
• Contribute to curriculum development, review, and management
• Assist with faculty and staff hires, development, mentoring, and evaluation
• Assist with the development of class schedules and teaching assignments for faculty 
• Advance Departmental goals
• Serve on Department, Division, and College committees
• Facilitate Department-sponsored guest artists and events
• Teach a minimum of one course per fall/spring semester
• Maintain professional engagement
• Other duties as assigned
 
 QUALIFICATIONS
• Masters degree in music technology or related field
• A record of administrative experience in higher education or industry
• College or university teaching experience
• Professional experience in a music technology-related field. Game audio experience preferred.  
• A record of professional engagement and ability to establish and maintain relationships with music industry constituencies, organizations, and academic partners
• Strong command of technology to support administrative tasks
• Excellent collaboration skills, and a commitment to working with students and colleagues from all backgrounds is essential. 
       
START DATE
The start date for the position is September 1, 2018, or earlier depending on availability.
