I began my professional career with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Information Technology from Robert Morris University. After working for 11 years at various computer companies in the Pittsburgh area, I changed my career focus, completed the Nursing program at Community College of Allegheny County and transferred to Robert Morris University where I completed the RN-BSN program. During this time, I continued my nursing career as an Emergency Room nurse at Passavant Hospital. In addition, I received additional training and experience in the CTICU and the Heart Catherization Lab. I also completed training to become a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for Allegheny County. I recently graduated from the Robert Morris Univesity Doctor of Nurse Practitioner program in 2011 and am currently employed with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Heart and Vascular Institute as a Nurse Practitioner. I also work as a Nurse Practitioner at a Quick Care Clinic on a casual basis.
My DNP capstone project, “An Educational Program Using Simulation-Based Training and Power Point to Improve the Emergency Department Nurse’s Knowledge of Evidence Collection Involving Sexual Assault Victims” , was accepted as a podium presentation at this year’s International Forensic Nursing Conference in Montreal. I hope to return to Nicaragua to continue the missionary work that is an on-going objective of Robert Morris University. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and attending live musical theater productions.
