My name is Susan Merenstein and I have been a practicing pharmacist for 31 years and I became a compounding pharmacist 11 years ago. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from University of Pittsburgh and my area of study was Pharmacy. In May of 2007, I established and built Murray Avenue Apothecary, Pittsburgh’s Premier Compounding and Wellness Pharmacy. We are recognized Pittsburgh's only Green Pharmacy and Pittsburgh's Pet Pharmacy. I work closely with each individual patient and their doctor/practitioner in a “triad of health” to provide individualized therapies for people who do not respond to one-size-fits-all treatments. Doctors also call the Apothecary daily for recommendations and professional services. Practitioners who work with the Apothecary include: Gynecologists, Family Practice Physicians, Pediatricians, Plastic Surgeons, Internists, Psychologists, Massage Therapists and Athletic Trainers, Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Veterinarians, Dentists and many others. My company's principal products and services include Wellness, Hormone Balancing and Compounding for Women and Men with a focus on the interactions of Thyroid, Adrenals and Sex Steroids. I have obtained more than 300 hours of continuing education in this area. Clients seek out our expert services in Custom Pet Compounding, including the now famous Greyhound Corn and Callus Cream, Topical Pain Creams, Specialized Dermatologic Creams for Skin Disorders, Nutraceuticals and Topical Vitamin Therapies, and Non-Toxic Anti-Aging Skin Care and Anti-aging supplementation with Acetylated Glutathione and Topical Glutathione Palmitate.
I am currently involved with The International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists and The Professional Compounding Centers of America as well as the National Association of Professional Women. I frequently teach health seminars locally as well as teaching adult education classes at the Osher program at Carnegie Mellon University as well as Community College of Allegheny County. I have also taught hormone balancing to future physician’s assistants at Chatham College. I have taught elective classes on pharmacy compounding and alternative therapies for pharmacy students at Duquesne University School of Pharmacy and University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. I am a preceptor for pharmacy students on clinical rotation for the University of Pittsburgh School of pharmacy.
I am often called on as a pharmacist expert for WTAE news and I have recently been featured on Mind Body and Soul on KQV radio, as well as previously hosting a radio show called “Adventures in Natural Medicine”. I also write a monthly column called “Ask Susan” for a local newspaper. My hobbies and special interests are family, reading on my Nook, walking my dog on the beautiful trails of Pittsburgh, photography, movies, live shows, and plays. The charities that I am most passionate and drawn to are non-profit organizations involving women and animals.
"I love being able to help patients achieve balance, quality of life, and lasting health". My motto is "Be aware of symptoms, get educated about your health and wellness, and take a proactive role in your health".
