My name is Angeles Martinez de Carvajal.
I'm the CEO and founder of AMCB Services LLC.
I was born and raised in Seville, Spain, where as a kid I got an early taste of my family's entrepreneurial ventures. My maternal grandfather, Francisco Garcia, co-founded Persán in the 1950s, one of Spain's leading detergent companies. My father, Luis Martinez de Carvajal, developed the first detergent in tablets, which is still in use today. My ancestors on my father's side also reponded to the chalenge of the new land, America. They were sent by the Spanish King to Cuba (Laura Martinez de Carvajal was the first female doctor in Cuba) and Puerto Rico.
I worked for the Persán International Department and on the Board of Directors for 4 years, before moving on to start my own business in real estate in Madrid, Spain. I learned to take moderate risks while I gained experience in the business as my investments grew. I developed a passion for real estate and decided to take my business on an international level. Having lived in New York in the 1980s, I thought that the US would provide a wonderful setting to continue raising my family and thrive as an entrepreneur. In 2005, a job opening for my husband, Arend Bakker, who has now successfully started his own translating company, brought us all to North Carolina where I continued expanding my business as I acquired rental homes in Raleigh's stable real estate market.
Our kids were raised in Madrid, and went to the International College of Spain. Christina, my eldest daughter lives and works in Manhattan, NY. Derek my second son lives in Madrid and Nick, the youngest, is preparing to enter the Culinary Institute of America in Hide Park, NY.
Some of my interests are gardening, classical music and art. I enjoy trying to keep up with technology from a personal and professional point of view.
I have found the USA to be the ideal place to grow as a business woman. I am now focused on developing a long-term real estate business in North Carolina, where I enjoy helping newcomers and Carolinian natives finding a property they can call home.
