Team NAPW MN: Please help me in the Walk to Defeat ALS®

Dear Friends, A family member of mine has been diagnosed with ALS. On September 13th, I'm joining hundreds of walkers for The ALS Association’s Walk to Defeat ALS®, and I need your support to make my efforts really matter!  ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a deadly illness with no known cause or cure.  It affects the motor neurons in a person's brain and spinal cord. When the motor neurons die, the muscles waste away. Gradually, a person is robbed of the ability to walk, speak, eat... Read More

Looking Your Professional Best

I am in the process of fine-tuning some Workshops, and would love input. I have 1-hour workshops that I will be offering free to job-seekers (through MN Unemployment and job seeker groups). The main focus will be on dressing for the interview & reducing the impact of age in the equation. I will also be offering longer 3-4 hour workshops for a reasonable fee. Workshop topics include: Impact of Color, Optimal Clothing Fit, Building a Professional Wardrobe on a Budget. Questions: Which o... Read More

Lisbeth Overton Wanda,
I love your workshop idea. I am drawn to Professional Wardrobe on a Budget. I have hosted nutrition and stress management workshops at a local yoga studio for a small fee. I think finding venues can be tricky and would actually be a great topic to discuss at one of our chapter meetings!!

Choosing a venue is probably best determined by who your are serving in your workshop. Could you connect with HR companies and offer some type of trade to be able to host your workshop for free in their location?

What about partnering with one of the many local upscale consignment shops? You could do all the marketing to bring customers to their store and if they also marketed it may increase traffic for both of you!

Best of luck to you,

Wanda M. Bender Lisbeth,,
Thank you for your feedback and ideas. I had considered consignment shops. Glad to hear someone else thinking along that line; the challenge may be finding one with enough space, but hey, there is probably at least one out there that will have what I need. I would love to connect with Macy's, but I think that would be a tough one to crack out of the chute. I hadn't thought of HR companies as a location - had considered offering a trade to others - retail stores to include their employees. I like that idea. I am also looking at Community Colleges.
I do really appreciate your response and encouragement!
